Frozen Hot Chocolate Is the Best Way to Beat the Summer Heat (2)

Frozen hot chocolate is such a funny name — it’s a bit ironic, isn’t it? Nevertheless, this creamy, chocolate-y frozen beverage is one of those perfectly simple summer pleasures. Growing up, I used to make variations of this all time with Hershey’s chocolate syrup or whatever hot cocoa powder that I could get my hands on. It had been years since I last had one, so I decided that the unrelenting July heat was the perfect excuse to reminisce on one of my childhood favorites.

This frozen hot chocolate is hands-down the way to beat the heat this summer. On days when you’re itching for a frozen treat, this simple recipe will bring the treat to you in a matter of minutes. It’s a crowd-pleaser amongst all age groups, and requires very little from you. A win-win.

The main ingredients in frozen hot chocolate are typically ice, powdered hot chocolate mix, and milk. I use chocolate milk in this recipe because it really reinforces the chocolate flavor. My biggest qualm with frozen hot chocolates is when they don’t taste chocolate-y enough!

What Is Frozen Hot Chocolate?

Frozen hot chocolate is a creamy blended drink that, as its name suggests, tastes like hot chocolate but is ice cold. It’s similar to a chocolate milkshake, but given that there’s no ice cream, it’s not as thick. The upside of this, however, is that it won’t get stuck in your straw the way that really thick milkshakes do. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

How to Serve Frozen Hot Chocolate

There are two very important things to remember when it comes to serving frozen hot chocolate: Drink it as soon as you blend it (although it still tastes pretty good melted) and don’t forget to top it off with a generous serving of homemade whipped cream.
