With the season of indulgence well upon us, festive treats make happy tummies. And if you want to get the kids involved, decorating can be so much fun. Well, messy too, but that's another story.

Coconut truffles have always been my favourite, anything with coconut really. Bounty bars are my absolute favourite when my sweet tooth craves some naughty treats. But making them at home is a lot easier, there is no way you can go wrong with the recipe.

I have used the recipe for myCoconut Balls with Condensed Milk (No Bake), but I dusted them in cocoa powder to make them more like a fancy treat for Valentine's Day or any other celebration. These snowman truffles are a lot larger, although the size is all up to you.

They are quick and easy to make, and for decorating you can go for whatever you have around, I used orange peel for the nose, half a large chocolate buttons for the hat, christmassy sprinkles for the scarf, chocolate chips for the eyes and buttons, and pretzels for the arms.

Ingredients needed

  • desiccated coconut
  • condensed milk - sweetened
  • butter - soft but not melted
  • vanilla extract - or the extract of your choice

Step-by-step photos and instructions

The prep itself is minimal, it really is just a matter of mixing all the ingredients together. All that is needed: desiccated coconut, condensed milk, soft butter and vanilla extract.

Shape balls out of the mixture, then are easy to stick together to form the snowman. I also made some smaller ones for snow balls, and scattered some desiccated coconut around as snow.

My little ones loved them, even if they usually look all all non-chocolate treats a bit funny, they did love these coconut treats. They can be served straight away, or let to chill for 10-15 minutes in the fridge, I do prefer them a tad cold, but it's up to you.

The vanilla extract is entirely optional, but I do love the nice kick it gives to the truffles. It can be replaced with any other extract of your choice though.

Other Christmas Treats

We do not get much snow over here, so making snowman treats really is fun. MyCoconut Snowman Cupcakes are a big hit with us at Christmas. Again, no chocolate, but the kids love them, as they do with anything festive related.
