Dinner In An Instant Pot

My Instant Pot has become my go-to cooking method for quite some time now. I can't express how much I love my IP.

I love creating recipes that even my kids can make in the Instant Pot. My youngest daughter loves to make hard-boiled eggs in ours.

One of my favorite recipes is Creamy Chicken Chili. I'm trying to get better at weekly meal prepping, this recipe is a great one to meal prep for.

Having all the chicken cut up ahead of time makes this a great dump and go recipe.

My new favorite has been this Kielbasa and Sauerkraut recipe. I feel it is a great recipe for those that are new to cooking in an Instant Pot.

Plus it is great for those busy school nights when you are short on time.

What Is Needed To Make Kielbasa and Sauerkraut

Here is what you will need for this meal.

Instant Pot Kielbasa and Sauerkraut Recipe (2)
  • 2 Packages of Polish Kielbasa
  • 1 16 Ounce Jar of Sauerkraut
  • 3 Pounds of Potatoes
  • Onion
  • 1 Cup Chicken Broth
  • Black Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Oregano Flakes
  • Parsley Flakes

Putting It All Together

Depending on the recipe, the first thing I will do when I'm cooking in the Instant Pot is to add the cooking liquid.

So that was my first step, I had a homemade chicken bone broth that I used but you can use store-bought chicken broth.

Next, the potatoes will need to be washed and cut into chunks. I used red potatoes and left the skins on.

The potato choice is yours as well as if you want the skin on. Once the potatoes are chunked up add to the inner pot.

Drain as much of the juice from the jar of sauerkraut as you like. I find that my family doesn't like sauerkraut to bitter so I drain most of the juice out. Then dump the sauerkraut on top of the potatoes in the inner pot.

Now is the time to add the seasonings and give a good stir.

Grab that cutting board to cut up the onion and sausage. I added a whole medium-sized onion that I diced up fairly small.

The sausage I just cut into chunks. Add both of these to the inner pot and place the lid on your Instant Pot. Make sure that the release valve is set to sealing.

Pressing the pressure cooker button on my Instant Pot I then adjusted the time to 12 minutes. Making sure it was on High-Pressure cook.

When the timer is finished I do a quick release of the steam valve. Please be careful of the steam.

Tips For Using An Instant Pot

I'm in a lot of Instant Pot groups on Facebook and I see people say how they forget to put their inner pot in before they add liquid.

I feel so bad for these people and think yup I can see myself doing that also.

The best tip I could give to make sure this doesn't happen to you. Get into a habit of checking to see if the inner pot is in the Instant Pot. Another tip would be is when it's clean put the inner pot back into the Instant Pot.

Every morning the dishwasher gets unloaded. This helps to ensure that the inner pot goes back into the Instant Pot before the next use.

You might want to check out my post on how we organized a closet in our mudroom this is where I store my IP. I had my husband put in a shelf that fits my Instant Pot perfectly.
