Having a birthday in late autumn myself I totally understand why anyone would be thinking about half birthday ideas for adults and kids – as a child summer birthdays seem so much for fun and strangely that doesn’t change as you get older.
Even if you’re a summer baby having a half birthday is a fun idea and as far as I’m concerned if the Queen thinks two birthdays are a good idea then why shouldn’t everyone else?
I’ve got a separate post of half birthday ideas for kids but of course you could use loads of these for children to celebrate too.

Of course having a half birthday as an adult is a bit daft, but frankly after the last few years who doesn’t think they could do with a bit more fun in their lives and a half birthday is the perfect excuse to do this!
Sometimes birthday celebrations can get cancelled too due to illness or bad weather preventing people from travelling so if you were planning on celebrating a milestone day and didn’t get the chance then having a half birthday party is a way of making sure you still get to celebrate someone’s special day. For those of us with birthdays inDecember,JanuaryorFebruaryit’s also definitely understandable why you’d rather celebrate inJulyorAugustinstead.
Failing that it can just be a fun excuse to start a new tradition, after all who needs an excuse to eat birthday cake?!
When Is My Half Birthday?
If you don’t know when your half birthday is there are lots of online calculators which will tell you.
I’ve tried using both Age Ninja and Calculator Online to work out my half birthday and as well as telling you the dates they also tell you the number of days there are until your next half birthday. Helpful if you want to plan some celebrations!
All you need to do is input the date of your birth and they’ll work it out for you, for me this is definitely the easiest way rather than trying to work out the math with a calendar.
Half Birthday Ideas for Adults
Make a half birthday cake by popping half a candle onto half a cake or have a whole birthday cake with two sides decorated differently. Making a cake yourself? Why not do the two layers in different colors.
Order a pizza with different toppings on each half.
Celebrate the day by going somewhere you wouldn’t normally go to on your normal birthday, so if you’re celebrating your half birthday in the winter go for an ice skating lesson or if you’re celebrating in the summer go to the beach or a splash park (not going to lie, I’m seriously contemplating having a half birthday celebration in Disneyland as I don’t want to go in the winter and I want an excuse to celebrate while I’m there!)
Stick these 1/2 birthday cake toppers onto cakes, ice cream and anything else you can think of because they are awesome.
Sing ‘Halfie Birthday’ (birthday songs are totally not just limited to kids).
Eat half and half cookies.
Wear a ‘happy half birthday to me’ t shirt.
Inflate birthday balloons and write 1/2 on them with markers.
Decorate half of a room.
Play some half birthday party games, why not try pin the tail on half a donkey?
Take photos on your day out with this cute 1/2 birthday photo prop.
Serve up half burgers, half donuts and half hot dogs.
Whatever you plan on doing on your half birthday make it as fun, silly and enjoyable as you possibly can. Half birthdays are for people who want to enjoy as many days as they possibly can so make sure you have a great time!
