Goro Akechi - Confidant Rank 3 (ENG.) (2024)

Hold onto yer butts, y’all. It’s the fluff!Akechi scene.

Thank you so much to @houjicha for editing this and correcting my mistakes!

Goro’s Text: Good evening. I’m in Kichijoji now, so if you’re free, would you like to meet up with me?

Ren’s Text: Sure.

Goro’s Text: I thought you’d say that.

(You meet up with Goro in Kichijoji.)

Goro: Ah, Amamiya-kun. Good evening. There’s a cafe around here that’s gained quite a reputation. (lit., recently talked about). I figured we could have some coffee and talk a little (lit., talk slowly–as in, spend some time doing so).

Goro: However, my recent TV appearances have caused me to gain a few rather extreme fans. They’ll post all sorts of things about the people seen with me on social media with nasty comments, complaining about their reputation (lit., intelligence–I couldn’t think of another way to say this)or appearance… But I think you’ll be fine. I would have told you about it over a text message, but I was worried it might bother you. Are you sure you’re all right with it?

Ren: It’s fine.

Goro: Thank you. The cafe should be open, so we’ll head there. It’s a pretty hot topic right now…

(At cafe.)

Goro: This is the popular cake I wanted to try out.

Ren:
Question #1:
Are you a sweets kinda guy? (lit., sweets boy.)
Question #2: Do you come here often?

Goro’s Answer for #1: I don’t hate sweets, but I’m not particularly fond of them.
Goro’s Answer for #2: No, I only found out about it recently.

Goro:I imagine it’s the same for everyone who comes here; talking about the food is more important than how the food actually tastes. So, would you like to try it?

(You both eat your cakes.)

Goro: That was delicious. I’d have it again.

Fad-Following Woman: Oh, hold on! Isn’t that–?

Forgetful Woman: He’s been on TV recently… Who was it again…?

Fad-Following Woman: Isn’t it Akechi-kun? The second coming of the Detective Prince? (lit., the second generation of the Detective Prince. I translated‘second coming’ based on how dramatic the woman is speaking. Second coming refers to the return of the savior back to humanity.)

Fad-Following Woman: Should I get his autograph? It could make people jealous… (lit., I could brag about it).

Goro: Ah, so they found me.

Ren:
Answer #1: You really are popular.
Answer #2: This must be tough for you.
Answer #3: Want me to scare ‘em off?

Goro’s Answer for #1: They’re just shallow fad-followers, right? (Note: By saying this, he’s also saying something negative about his popularity. As in, he’s just a passing fad.)
Goro’s Answer for #2: I’m used to it, but I wouldn’t want to be a nuisance for this shop.
Goro’s Answer for #3: Haha, that would be in poor taste. I am on TV after all.

Man on the Street: Huh? Who’s that?

Rumor-Loving Woman: Oh, is that a celebrity?!

Goro: … I guess it’s a good time to leave. Shame. I wanted to spend a little more time here. Let’s go, okay?

Ren:
Answer #1: You didn’t do anything wrong.
Answer #2: You don’t have to run away.

Goro’s Answer to #1 and #2: My apologies, but I still think it would be better if we left. If we stay, it may turn into a problem.

Goro:Perhaps if I start wearing glasses like yours, that would be enough to throw people off.

Ren:
Answer #1: Let’s try it.
Answer #2: C’mere for a sec.

Goro’s Answer to #1 and #2: Wh- Hey! Where are we–? (Note:Implied here that Ren drags Goro somewhere for a moment).

(The scene fades to black, then fades back in. Goro has messed up hair like Ren, and is wearing his glasses.)

Fad-Following Woman: I’m back, and I brought something for him to sign..

Forgetful Woman: Hey, is that personreally Akechi-kun?

Fad-Following Woman: Of course! You have to look closely…

Forgetful Woman: Could we be mistaken?

Fad-Following Woman: Was I? I thought I recognized him. (lit., I remembered his face well.)

Fad-Following Woman: Ah, what a pity. I could have bragged about it.

(The crowd leaves and screen fades to black. Fades back in, and Akechi is back to his normal self.)

Goro:… I never thought you’d actually do it. Well. I suppose I’ll have to be more careful with how I talk around you from now on. (Note:Implying that Goro shouldn’t speak recklessly, since Ren will take him at his word and act on it.)

Ren:
Answer #1: It suited you.
Answer #2: It was the only option we had.
Answer #3: I should’ve taken a photo.

Goro’s Answer for #1: (smiles)Oh? You just bore witness to the Detective Prince’s shame. (lit., the Detective Prince lost face in front of you.)
Goro’s Answer #2: Ah yes, you came to my rescue. (lit., you saved me) I never would have thought of such a primitively simple method.
Goro’s Answer for #3: (laughs)Haven’t you ever heard of acquiring the rights to use someone’s likeness?

Goro:I guess you never know until you try. I learned something new today. Thank you.

Goro: Our coffee’s gotten cold. Do you want a fresh cup?

(Fade to black.)

Goro: See you later.

(Goro calls when you get back to Leblanc.)

Goro: Hi. It was nice spending time with you today (Note: lit., a good breather [as in relaxing]). It’s a shame we couldn’t have a full discussion, though. Even so…you really surprised me. Hard to believe you solved that problem with one of the oldest tricks in the book. Thanks to that, it was an amusing experience, although it shouldn’t surprise you that I’m not keen on the idea of doing it again.

Goro:I learned firsthand what will happen should I ever speak carelessly in front of you.

Ren:
Answer #1:
You weren’t careless.
Answer #2: I thought it was fun.
Answer #3: Let’s disguise you again next time.

Goro’s Answer to #1: No, my mouth only led me to disaster… I’m well aware of that now, thanks to this.

(Note: My dictionary pointed out that there was once an old onomatopoeic expression for the cawing of a crow:唖唖 /aa. What I’ve translated as“no” was Akechi saying“aa,” a regretful/lamenting sound. I highly doubt this was intentional on Atlus’s part, but I thought I should mention this fun thing, considering Akechi’s codename.)

Goro’s Answer to #2: …You’re rather inconsiderate, aren’t you? (lit., You’re a terrible person, aren’t you?)
Goro’s Answer to #3: Ahaha. Oh my, you aren’t being serious, are you?

Goro: If we simply must do that… How about you become my body double next time? We’re about the same height, so you could easily fit into my clothes. Wouldn’t that be fun? Of course, if we do it, we must be thorough about it. Your hairstyle and other accessories would be under my supervision. I doubt anyone would notice, anyway. A lot of people these days only see the surface of things–such as today, for example. Oops, it’s getting a bit late; I have to get up early tomorrow. I have to get going now (Note: lit., should cool down now). See you later.
