Well they are saying the fuel pump needs to be replaced as well as the fuel module. Which is fine but then they want to drop the tanks and clean out the tanks and make sure no metal is in the tanks and making it through to the new pump and fuel module. If they drop the tanks it’s a $9200 hit. I’m wondering if I can get away with just replacing the fuel pump and the fuel module. Keep in mind the check engine light came on and we stopped the truck within 100 miles at the weyer cave location in VA. Excel truck group. What to do.....

I don’t know anything about the DD13. Maybe when they did the PM they didn’t do something correctly? Have you changed out the fuel filters and tried running it?

I would call around to some shops and ask for the service manager to get some free advice possibly.

Why would you have metal in your tanks? Seems weird and extremely costly. How much are they charging just to do the fuel pump and module?

I dont know squat about diesel. But I know my way around a cage pretty decent. A sensor. Or a code. Is just telling you where to look. I would identify all components that it could be. Including bad fuel.
Seriously. Start at one end and work your way back. Lines filters. Loose bolts. A bad/ dirty sensor. Is the truck running any different. When and how if so.
I'm only thinking I don't know for sure. But I'd say a new tank is cheaper than 9200 plus the fuel thats in it. Have you used these people before. Was something stuck in the fueling hose.
Don't play part darts. Really figure it out. Could be a wiggled loose fuse. Can you test the fuel pressure like you can on a gas car? Could be a tbi sensors. Is it starting hard.? You said its stating low pressure. What would cause that. A leak. A loose clamp. A bad hose. Fuel cap not on tight. Gook from around the cap getting into the tank. Gloging the filter. A bad pump. Maybe that alge. Stuff I've heard about. Loose lines from the tank forward. Loose/ dirty injectors. Big glass bowl not on right or tight.something. stuck under the pedal.
    Good luck.
    Following.

Well I called Freighliner and they said the same thing, if you can hear the fuel pump winning and you see metal in your filter, then most likely you will have metal in the tanks. Either way this is the life of a trucker. If I continue to go the metal could get into the injectors, more money. Power has been degraded 25%. For the total down to $7500. Not bad considering I’m in the mountains of VA. Excel Truck Group. They seem pretty large all over VA

Sorry to say, but the diagnosis that you are getting is pretty much spot on. Pump and module for sure. I have gotten away without cleaning the tanks when customers have not had the money, but cleaning out tanks is proper. Have them show you metal in bottom of filter module.

They did, once seeing it and me calling Freighliner in Atlanta to talk to a service guy I Know. He said the same thing. Just get it fixed properly and run hard for the next month to get that money back
