Last night, Christie's hosted a formal reception to honor André Leon Talley's fashion collection and his highly anticipated estate sale.
The hour and long half evening included an uplifting vocal performance by the Abyssinian Baptist Church of the City of New York. Editor-in-Chief of The Cut and Co-founder of Black in Fashion Council Lindsay Peoples addressed attendees gathered to honor Mr. Talley and made welcoming remarks for the evening. Head of Christie's Communications,Deidrea Miller, President of Christie's AmericasBonnie Brennan, and Executor of the Estate of André Leon TalleyAlexis Thomas, also followed up with speeches touching upon the legacy of Andre Leon Talley.
Guests included Lindsay Peoples, Bonnie Brennan, Deidrea Miller, Vera Wang, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Zac Posen, Bob Colacello, Mickalene Thomas, Hannah Bronfman, Elaine Welteroth, Aoki Lee Simmons, Jon Gray, Maxwell Osborne, Vikki Tobak, Kingsley Gbadegesin, Derek Blasberg, Mark Guiducci, Chrissy Rutherford, Gabby Prescod, Danielle Prescod, Elena Velez, Sandrine Charles, Recho Omondi, TK Wonder, Candace Marie Stewart, Robert Verdi, Igee Okafor, Olivia Joan Galli and more.
The collection, which will be exhibited at Christie's through February 14, chronicles Mr. Talley's life as a fan and disrupter of fashion. His long-lasting relationships with fashion's most beloved, including Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, and many more, are evident in the endless display of wealthy belongings and personal gifts showcased at the reception; Louis Vuitton trunks, Ralph Lauren accessories, Anne Lebowitz photography, Oscar de la Renta caftans, and more.
On behalf of Mr. Talley's estate, the collection will be on sale at Christie's through a course of live and online auctions throughout February. All proceeds will go to Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem and the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Durham, North Carolina.
