It’s that old aged dilemma; whether to choose chocolate spread or peanut butter? Of course here at Nutshot we aren’t biased at all, nope not one little jot… what are we saying, obviously you choose peanut butter are you insane? Want to know why, other than the fact it tastes amazing? Well let’s take a look a look at the top five reasons.
1) Sugar
Kicking things off is that demon, sugar. Causing spikes in blood levels, adding inches to your waist and general playing havoc with your skin, sugar is not our friend and chocolate spread is packed with it. A typical serving of chocolate spread has 20 grams of sugar whereas peanut butter has about 3 grams (that’s almost seven times as much in chocolate spread…seven!) and if you get Nutshot, and so you should, then it has no added sugar – it’s just 100% peanuts. Excellent.
2) Protein
Peanut butter is full of essential amino acids and protein, which is just what you need for repairing muscle growth after working out and staying fuller for longer, we suggesting adding a dollop of it to your breakfast smoothies before or after the gym. Chocolate spread, well protein doesn’t feature quite so much we’re talking about 2 grams per serving – let’s just say you’re not going to get muscles eating chocolate spread.
3) It’s versatile
Peanut butter doesn’t like to be categorised or labelled. It can be sweet – add it to biscuits, protein balls, smoothies or on top of fruit or go savoury and use it as a base for peanut stir fries and chicken sauces. Chicken and chocolate spread anyone? We thought not.
4) Minerals and Vitamins
Peanut butter is packed with minerals and vitamins such as phosphorus which if you didn’t know is needed for muscle, nervous and kidney function. It can also contain up to 20% of your daily value of niacin which is needed for the nervous system and turning food into energy, as well as lots of vitamin E needed for immunity and new cell growth. Chocolate spread on the other hand doesn’t really have that many vitamins to speak of at all.
5) Good Fats
Peanut butter may contain fat, but most of it is the good sort of fat that you need to function and help to lower bad cholesterol and raises good cholesterol, where a chocolate spread is high in saturated fat and all that sugar doesn’t help either.
So there you have it, if you were in any doubt that peanut butter wasn’t the god of the spreads, of course. And Nutshot, well we’re the uber gods of the spread world.
